Sedona “Clears the Air” on the Pocket Fire

Local trails, businesses and activities are ready for you this summer

(SEDONA, Ariz.) - Sedona has good news for visitors: the Pocket Fire that began June 19 is over 95% contained with full containment expected soon. While coverage of the fire kept many visitors from the area, the fire stayed at least seven miles from the city, and local businesses remained open. State Route 89A through Oak Creek Canyon, which was temporarily closed, is now open, air quality is good and nearly all trails are accessible to the public.

The city, the Sedona Tourism Office and area businesses want travelers to know that local hotels, restaurants, shops, galleries, spas, attractions and tour operators welcome guests to enjoy all that Sedona has to offer.

“We are grateful to the firefighters, emergency personnel and community partners who have worked tirelessly to protect Oak Creek Canyon, the Coconino National Forest and surrounding communities,” said Andrew Grossmann, Tourism Manager for the city of Sedona. “We welcome visitors to Sedona and encourage travelers to plan ahead, check current conditions and be respectful of all natural areas.”

WHAT VISITORS SHOULD KNOW

Visitors planning a trip to Sedona this summer or fall should know:

• Some remote trails, West Fork Trail and forest roads north of Sedona remain temporarily closed, but the vast majority of Sedona's extensive 400+ mile trail system is accessible. Additionally, while flash flooding risks still exist due to monsoon activity over where the Pocket Fire burned, out of an abundance of caution the Forest Service has temporarily closed creek access and recreation sites between the northern part of Uptown and West Fork Trailhead. Creek access is open above the West Fork area and from the Uptown area and down, including all hotels in Uptown and Red Rock Crossing. • Respect trail closures and know that trail access may change as conditions continue to improve. Always check official resources before hiking.
• Be ready for fun! Sedona is a place to make memories with your friends, family and loved ones.

Summer in Sedona is in its normal rhythm, with cooler mornings and evenings ideal for hiking, scenic overlooks, guided adventures and sunset views.
