Join RunSedona to Celebrate an Athlete's Third Time Around the Globe
Celebrate the joy of fitness, resilience, and a journey that spans a global distance
Sedona, AZ - January 7, 2026 - RunSedona proudly announces the 21st annual RunSedona Half Marathon/10K/5K event scheduled for February 7, 2026. This year, the event promises to be extra special as it celebrates super runner Don Dickinson's remarkable achievement of completing his 75,000th mile—equivalent to running around the globe three times.
Renowned for his tenacity and spirit, Don Dickinson is an 80-year-old running enthusiast and retired business school professor. He lives near Sedona, Arizona with his wife of 35 years, Anna. A veteran of the sport, Don was swept up in the running craze of the mid-1970s and ran his first marathon in 1977 in Portland. He has since completed 35 marathons and diligently tracked his mileage, even creating and marketing his own running log.
Despite facing challenges such as illness and injury last year, Don's dedication to running remains unwavering. "I had no specific goal when I started, other than to lose some weight and get in shape. I never imagined achieving this sort of longevity or distance," Don shares. His regular routine now is a 10K every other day, totaling 80 miles a month, which will culminate in his 75,000th mile at the RunSedona 10K.
Standing at 5’6” and weighing 128 pounds, Don boasts an impressive track record of maintaining excellent physical health without any hip or knee issues. "Running has been an incredible part of my life. It keeps me high-energy and balanced, providing fresh air and blood circulation that keeps me healthy and young."
In addition to his passion for running, Don has had a distinguished career. He chaired the Advertising Management program at Portland State University for 15 years after a successful tenure as a senior partner at a renowned Portland advertising agency. Since retiring from academia in 2012, Don keeps busy with writing textbooks, painting, international travel, community service for the Verde Valley Humane Society, local community HOA duties, and, of course, running.
This will mark Don's third time participating in the RunSedona event, having previously triumphed in his age category on two occasions. As he gears up for yet another inspiring 10K performance, Don reflects on the journey: "I've solved so many problems at five miles that I gave it a name—my 'Five-mile revelation.'"
RunSedona invites individuals and the global running community to join in celebrating Don's incredible lifetime achievement. Witnessing Don's final mile in February promises to be a momentous occasion that exemplifies the enduring spirit of running.
