Arizona Delegation Advocates for Immigration Reform in Washington D.C.

Greater Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism President and CEO David Key takes part in Arizona Talks Washington DelegationGreater Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau President and CEO David Key recently joined an Arizona delegation to Washington D.C., advocating for meaningful immigration reform while meeting with key lawmakers and policy experts.

Immigration Reform: A Bipartisan Priority

The delegation partnered with the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) to conduct meetings on Capitol Hill, encouraging representatives to support bipartisan immigration solutions. Key emphasized the need for additional legal immigration pathways as border security measures are implemented.

“Our current system is overly complex,” noted Key, highlighting how outdated policies no longer align with economic realities. The Immigration Act of 1990 established an H-1B visa cap of 65,000, which remains unchanged despite America’s GDP growing from $5.9 trillion to over $27 trillion.

Key Connections Made

During the trip, Key met with several Arizona representatives and policy experts:

  • Senator Mark Kelly
  • Congressman Eli Crane and his staff
  • Congressman Greg Stanton
  • Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari
  • Staff of Congressman David Schweikert

The delegation received a tour of the Capitol building courtesy of Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s staff. Educational sessions included meetings with Nayna Gupta, Policy Director at the American Immigration Council, and Suhail Khan, Senior Director of External Affairs at Microsoft, who discussed the intersection of technology, AI, and immigration policy.

Addressing Sedona’s Housing Challenges

Beyond immigration reform, Key took the opportunity to address Sedona’s critical housing shortage. He met with Edward Pinto, Senior Fellow and Director of the American Enterprise Institute Housing Center, for what he described as “a meaningful discussion about increasing housing availability in Yavapai County.”

Looking Ahead

Key affirmed his commitment to continue advocating for Sedona at the national level while leveraging these federal connections to support ongoing work at both state and community levels.

“I plan to use these connections to continue learning, sharing knowledge, and supporting our work locally,” Key stated, underscoring the importance of multi-level governance in addressing complex challenges facing Arizona communities.
