AS SEEN IN THE RED ROCK NEWS

July 19, 2019

fisher-boy-by-lodge-pondRemember when life was slow in the summer? In Sedona, not so much! Here are a few items from our July calendar:

Last week we welcomed new Chamber Board executive officers and members. Special gratitude to Stephanie Giesbrecht, who served as Chairman of the Board and will continue as Immediate Past Chair Ex-Officio, and Linda Goldenstein who served as Vice Chair last year. Special thank you and farewell to Desiree Brackin with Brackin Benefits who rotated off the Board in FY19.

We are set to represent Sedona at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Tucson July 22 – 24. Tourism everywhere is simultaneously growing and seeing visitors who want a more authentic experience, and officials are eager to know more about our Sustainable Tourism Plan. We will emphasize the essential role of our residents and that ongoing community dedication is critical to launching first steps in the months ahead. The Sustainable Tourism Plan is also a finalist for a prestigious award at the Governor’s Conference!

Did we see you at the Community Pulse forum July 16 at the Rouge? This twice-yearly public event is a uniquely Sedona affair and sponsored by APS. Civic leaders inside and outside government speak on issues of the day and take questions from attendees – a fantastic opportunity for a firsthand encounter with local leaders. See the event live on Sedona Chamber Facebook.

In a similar spirit, our Chamber office is open to you from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. (July 19) for our weekly Coffee Chat. Bring questions and ideas for an informal conversation with me and selected board members. The address is at 45 Sunset Drive. Coffee is on us!

We still have two Wednesdays left in July, which means two opportunities to get the Buy One/Get One special Uptown restaurants are offering to mark the SR 89A construction. Find details at LocalsNiteOut.com. In August, a new slate of restaurants will join the BOGO bandwagon!

This month and all summer long, Sedona businesses are offering tremendous discounts for the locals. Save on everything from overnight stays at popular resorts to creekside whirlpool therapy to free desserts – way too many to list here! Click the “local coupons” icon at SedonaChamber.com.

Our monthly mixer is July 25 at the Sedona Golf Resort, 35 Ridge Trail Drive, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Just $10 for partners and $15 for non-partners. The mixer is the quickest way to make new business connections in a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere.

We just completed another free “Strategies for Success” workshop on July 10, this one was on managing your online reputation from a TripAdvisor rep. See the full live event on Sedona Chamber Facebook! The next event happens August 14, with advice on connecting with travelers to boost sales and earn a reputation as a must-visit Sedona experience. Learn more and RSVP for these free workshops at SedonaChamber.com

Please mark your calendar for the 2nd annual Star Party on August 2 from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. at the lower softball field at Posse Grounds! This free event is family friendly, so bring your chairs and blankets and plan to stay a while. The first 200 guests will receive a free glow bracelet. Learn more at SedonaStarParty.com.

Finally, I was honored to accept an appointment to the Northern Arizona Healthcare Board of Directors this month. Residents depend on NAH for first-rate health and safety services. I believe a Chamber presence on the Board will be a positive for Sedona.

Another slow Sedona summer? We don’t think so!
